철없던 대학교 1학년 시절, 헤비메탈과 하드코어에 빠져있던 제게 이 노래는 상당히 충격적이었습니다. 딱히 고음이 있는 것도, 굵직하고 하드한 목소리가 있는 것도 아닌데 특이한 보컬과 특이한 베이스의 매력이 저를 단숨에 사로잡았었지요. 요 근래 지하철에서 출퇴근 하면서 뮤즈의 live공연인 Haarp를 보고 있는데(사실 동영상 자체로만 보면 이게 라이브인지 뮤비인지는 구분이 가지 않습니다;) 와 아무튼 노래에서부터 밴드의 스타일 하며, 공연장의 스크린에 펼쳐지는 화면 등.. 시각/청각적인 면에 있어서는 정말 환상에 사로잡힌 기분이 들 정도입니다.

덛붙혀 한마디.. 예전에 어떤 친구가 제가 듣는 노래의 수준은 초등학생 급이라고 하던 기억이 나는군요.. judas priest, rammstein, limp bizkit 등을 좋아하는 저로선 뭐 사실 그렇나 보다.. 라고 생각했긴 했는데, 저는 어떤 음악이든 제 상황에 맞게 저를 즐겁게 해줄 수 있는 노래를 좋아합니다. 그러한 개인의 취향에 있어서 음악은 만인이 공감한다기 보단 자기 개인의 개성을 존중해 주어야 한다고 생각하는데.. 꼭 그런 사람이 있습니다. 자신들이 이미 예전에 패스했다고 해서 무슨 수준낮은 음악 취급을 하는 것.. 아니면 이제 막 모던 락의 걸음마 단계에 올랐다는 등.. 뭐 다른것도 마찬가지이겠지만 정말 음악에 있어서 만큼은 자신이 싫어한다, 또는 오래전에 들었다고 해서 무시하는 그런 일은 없어야 한다고 생각한다는… 잡담이었습니다.. ^^
